December 14, 2020 • 204 Choice Rally
A solid group of area parents (known as 204 Choice -Facebook and Twitter) made a commitment during the past months to give voice to our community. They mapped out a wonderful event to give district families a chance to be heard regarding a return to in-person learning. Their efforts resulted in the incredible December 14th, 2020 rally at District 204 headquarters.
It was wonderful show of support for choice! Our family stood alongside many others who are yearning for improved leadership regarding their public school education options.
Over 150 attendees listened to parents, students, and guest speakers. A D.J. provided music and a local high school student sang the National Anthem. Surrounding school districts-Plainfield, Naperville, and St. Charles-also joined in support (thank you!). Former President of Chicago public schools, Paul Vallas, was kind to lend his experience and voice to the rally. He has been a prominent voice in favor of in-person learning.

Remote learning is an option for all students (one that exists well beyond the scope of public education), however, in-person learning is an overdue option to all of our District 204 students. The momentum at the rally is no doubt carrying over into several state and national discussions. When I was asked to speak, I agreed but not on behalf of my kids. Rather, you may hear my stance on equitability and advocacy in the video at left. More to come, including the upcoming January 12 Zoom Meet and Greet open to the community; registration required.
I look forward to the prospect of championing transparency, adaptability, and advancement within our I.P.S.D. 204 community.
